Diver's Log Final

Oceandate 2362014

I was up almost every hour starting at 2am. Our wake up call was at 5:30. I was already up and got done to the saloon quickly for the dive brief. There really wasn't one though since it was just Frank, Charlie, and me. Glen (the scary instructor) had the open water kids. One of the Italians was hyper at 5:30am! He was singing and joking around already. We all gave him a funny look. It was super dark still while we were checking our gear. There was a slight red on the horizon as we started our descent. It was to be my deepest dive. At the bottom (30m) we rested and Charlie tried to attract some sharks. None appeared. We started our swim.

when you touched this coral it would change color

Again, we watched the reef wake up. It is truly an amazing transition to watch.

When we got back on back, I gathered my things paid my bill and sat down for breakfast. I had to eat quickly because our next dive was at 8. Frank and I were on our own. We took a similar path to the previous dives. The visibility wasn't as good as the day before but it was still beautiful. We got throughly lost, thankfully I figured out where the boat was. Whoever said "don't take directions from a woman has never met me!"

Now you see me

 Now you don't

Frank and I relaxed on the boat until the next dive at 10. The boat was moved and a load of people came on board. It was chaos! I was happy to get off the boat for our dive. I also got set up with a go-pro since I had been having so much trouble. Simon let me use it for free. I could not thank him enough! My last dive was my boat dive. As Charlie first described it to me, it is when you roll off the small boat "James Bond style." I started to get nervous but Frank was doing it with me so it helped me relax. We back rolled in and said goodbye. The reef was spectacular! We were in for our max amount of time.

I could have could have stayed down forever but I was starving so I was happy to get out and eat lunch. We got lunch, filled out or books, and went snorkelling. It was just as beautiful. We swam into a sea turtle right away and followed him for awhile. I was one of the last to get back on the boat.

Between my two snorkels I had some pretty wicked tan lines to show off! I had my last cuppa and then we said goodbye.

I talked to Roxanne on Reefkist to transfer the Go-pro footage to my SD card. She breeds birds, and brought some of the babies on board.

She is also going to vet school in Australia. It was interesting to talk to her about her research and her future goals. Frank and I also looked at my photos on his computer. By the time we got back to Cairns I was tired. I got my card for my certification at the dive shop and taken back to my accommodation. I checked in and took a hot shower before going into to town to send a few messages. I feel asleep very quickly when I got back.
