Crocodiles!!!

June 25, 2014

In the morning I was still up early so I packed my things and got ready for the day. Sophie and I checked out and ate breakfast before walking to the beach. It was beautiful and hot! I tried to get a coconut bust was unsuccessful every time.

We headed back to the hostel bar to get water, cool off and relax. We watched soccer and talked to some people until the time I had to leave. I was picked up to do my tour back to Cairns. Our first stop was to the Cap Tribulation Beach.

The water was crystal clear!

It is were the "reef meets the rainforest." The fringing reef comes right to the shores. After half an hour we were off. Out next stop... ice cream!!

The ice cream company makes the ice cream from tropical fruits that are grown locally. It was delicious! It was our treat before our Daintree River Croc Tour.

Meet Dusty, she is a 3 meter long croc. She was out enjoying the sunny day!

Meet Scarface, he is a 4.2 meter long crocodile. He is the dominate male of the river.

I had to put this video in so you can hear the bogan accent our tour guide had. This is was I thought all Australians would sound like before I got here.

This was a very exciting but frightening moment. I was safe the entire time, but I didn't realise the power these animals have until Scarface slid into the water along side the boat. He was a little over half the length of the boat and would completely disappear a few inches below the surface of the water. I know why they say don't swim in these waters. You would never see them coming. They are beautiful, powerful creatures that have to be respected.

Another female croc

 Green tree snake

My camera died towards the end of the trip, but we saw kingfisher birds, a 2 year old croc and a "2014 edition" croc. The newborn was so little, I had a hard time finding him for awhile. He looked like a small branch on a fallen tree. He was out hiding and enjoying the sun as well

My photo shoot with a croc

He had a scrap on his nose... but he is alright!

We had a cuppa while everyone was getting their photos taken. Then we were off to Mossman Gorge. It was a beautiful rainforest settlement of the aboriginal people.

I saw a group of people gathered taking pictures along side a path. I stopped to look at what they were looking at. I silently gasped when I saw it. An older British woman asked me if I knew what kind of snake that was. I instantly replied, a red-bellied black snake. She asked if it was poisonous. I wanted to yes it is very deadly, but instead I said "yes, it is venomous, but I think it is sleeping so if everyone just leaves it alone it should be alright." I snapped a picture and walked away.

We were able to go swimming in this part of the Gorge. It was crystal clear, cool water. Very refreshing after a hot day. While I was swimming, I could see the fish swimming below me.

As we headed back to Cairns we drove through Port Douglas. This city is the millionaire's Cairns. President Bill Clinton goes there to holiday along with other famous actors, singers, and politicians. Out ver last stop was the Rex Overlook.

Then we were back in Cairns at our hostel before 7pm. I went and got subway and ate at one of the the city parks to catch up on my emails and messages. Back at the hostel I crashed, which was good because my shuttle was due to arrive at 4:55 am.
