I was ready to go at 4:40am. The came and took me to the airport. I just relaxed when I go there. It was funny because the flight boards had the words "relax" or "boarding" instead of the departure time (Oh Australia). On board my flight I was next to a woman a few years older than me. She asked if I was Canadian. We talked for awhile about uni and life until we were both tired a fell asleep for the remainder of the flight. When we landed she set me in the right direction to get me to my hostel. I got on the train and was headed into the city, but I had no idea where to go. I found a park hoping there would be wifi. There wasn't so I called Nick. He became my person GPS for a little while then we just talked for awhile. I was too early to check in so I relaxed in the lounge area looking at things to do in Sydney until I could.
This is what the my hostel room looked like! I was literally staying on the train station platform in an old sleeping car. It was pretty cool!
The view from my window! |
After I was all settled in, I was off to Bondi Beach! It is an iconic beach of Australia, and it has its own tv show.
I was cold! After being in Cairns and enjoying 70s and 80s, Low 60s was freezing. Everyone on the beach was wearing their swimsuit but I stayed bundled up and dry. I felt like a cat when I took my nap!
Ocean pool. They pump water in from the ocean and the waves coming in also help to fill it. How awesome is that!?
There was a walk along the coast near the beach. This is view from some of the tide pools along the walk.
I liked this section of the wall. It was graffiti to show people where to recycle and throw their rubbish.
There was a winter festival going on and they had set up this ice rink. Beach background for ice skating! This is how winter should be in Wisconsin!
I enjoyed my fish 'n chips watching the sunset and surfers. The seagulls were disappointed when I didn't share.
When I got to back to the hostel I did a little laundry and went grocery shopping. I relaxed the rest of the evening in my room.
