Thursday
Today was my first busy day of classes. I had two classes, marine biodiversity and GIS for aquatic ecosystems. Marine biodiversity went well and was interesting, but GIS did not. Nothing was working for me in the beginning of class so I was very frustrated. GIS finally started working for me an hour and half into class and I was able to do my work. I had to stay after for awhile but I got it done. I cannot say enough how thankful I am that all my housemates are so kind! Lauren helped me out by taking me to the store to find another hard drive. I didn't find one today but I was thankful she took me to look. Sam is a champ, he is a fourth year marine bio student working on his honors. He was a great listener while I vented about my problems with GIS.
As soon as I finished making dinner there was a few of us congregated in the lounge/ living room area, so Nick convinced us we should play a card game with him. He taught us how to play Monopoly Deal. It was a lot of fun! All of were laughing and having a great time.
After two games of Nick seeking back and winning we called it quits for the night and watched youtube clips and listened to music. It was a great night with my new house family after such a rough day in class.
Friday
Today I did not have class, but I had the mission of getting a new hard drive. In the morning I ended up just talking to a bunch of people back home on facebook and facetimed with my family. Afterwards, I went and picked up the tickets I won from the Student Life centre. They are cinema tickets. I don't even know where it is but when a good movie is in the theater I will have to figure it out. Then I found Kettle to see where the best place to get a hard drive was. I was in luck because they were heading to subway for lunch and the store was close to that. So we piled in the car, got subway and found my hard drive. The store where I bought the hard drive is called Harvey Norman. It has everything from furniture to cameras. So we decided to kill some time and try out the furniture. The people in the store were laughing at us, but mostly the boys.
As I was walking by a help station a woman stopped me and asked where my accent was from. I said Wisconsin and she laughed and said she was from Canada and I sounded Canadian. She told me about how she moved here from Canada and started a family. She also said her son was going to uni here in Warrnambool and had said he met an American Katie. I am not sure if it was me or the other Katie. It was funny though. She was very kind and supportive. She said it does get rough being away from home for awhile but what a better place to be than Australia.
After Dee and I convinced the children it was time to go we headed back to uni. There was a basketball tournament going on that a bunch of people left for. So Kettle, Evan, Eric, Jake, and I ventured up to the cliffs. It was breathtaking! I felt like it was something that you see in National Geographic.
We climbed down into the cave...
Some cool little plants
This part of the Australian continent is actually getting pushed up so where we were walking used to be underwater. You can see that the old tide pools where ocean animals lived are now inhabited by plants. Pretty cool huh?
So we walked along the trial for awhile and decided to follow Kettle and climb down closer to the water.
It was scary at some points climbing down to the water, but it was worth every moment. It was beautiful! Once we got back to the top it was time to head back to uni and celebrate Evan's birthday! It was a fun night of celebrating his birthday with American and Aussie friends!
