First Day of School

March 10, 2014

The day my parents have been waiting for... my first day of school. Everyone keeps telling me it looks like I am just having fun and not doing school... well yeah it is summer here. But not anymore. My first official class today started at 2pm. I was up at 8am, so I did laundry and relaxed with my housemates. All the first years were so nervous for the first day and I felt like I have already been here ages. Around 1:30 I got ready and headed to class. Here is my first day picture...

I even took a picture in class to prove I was there...

The class I had was marine biology. The first lecture we talked about working in a group since we have a group paper that is due in April. The second half of the lecture was a crash course in photosynthesis and cellular respiration. It was review from biochem but it is always good to freshen up on stuff. After class, my group completed a group charter and assigned project duties (aka I got homework). By the time we finished it was getting close to dinner but it was so beautiful out I lifted then went for a run around campus. I keep hearing it is going to start raining a lot soon so I am taking advantage of the nice weather every chance I get!

I was invited to have dinner with the Sherwood residents. They had a family meeting and made tacos and nachos for dinner. It was so good! It was also nice having someone else cook. After cleaning up the dishes I headed back to my room to do some homework.

Then I headed to the beach with Lachie. It is a clear night and we thought we might be able to see the Southern Lights. When we got to the beach the moon was shinning so brightly we didn't need to use a torch. He took me to the cove-like area and we climbed up the sand to this bare area amongst the brush. It was amazing. We could see all the stars and out into the ocean. Unfortunately mist was coming in with the tide and we weren't able to see the Southern Lights, but we did see a few shooting stars. There were also wallabies moving around in the trees below us. I had a spider that decided to get up close and personal too. We also saw a couple bats flying around. Here is the view of the city from where we were at...

The picture doesn't do the view justice.

Overall, it was a perfect way to end the first day of school. Tomorrow I don't have class, so it will be back to fun and exploration.
