First Exam... Check!

May 30th, 2014

Thursday

I had my first Australian final. I got up in the morning and did some reviewing with my housemate before we headed to the final. I smashed it! For many of the people in my class it was their very last class of uni, so the rest of the day was a celebration.

Robyn, Morgan, and I checked the swell online and it looked good enough to go snorkelling. When we got there though it was too choppy. We did get to see the film crew who are working on the movie "Oddball." It is a movie about the Maremma Guardian dogs. They are the ones that protect the Penguins on middle Island.

Some of Robyn's friends were skateboarding so we watched for a few minutes...

Then it was off to the rope swing! Morgan had never been there so it was pretty exciting for her. We suited jump and jumped in.

 So excited!

After we got back to uni we got ready for the International Farewell dinner. It was also partly a welcome dinner for those of us that arrived in February. The theme was...
 Thanksgiving!

The food was alright. It was not as good as my Dad's Thanksgiving meal, but it was a wonderful way to send off the international students

Thursday night is Uni night! We headed into town for a dancing and celebrating the end of this trimesters classes!

Friday

I got up semi- early to go for a swim. There was frost on the ground! It warmed up later though ;)
Ben picked me up and we were off to the pool. It felt great to be back in the pool swimming. I started a workout but the pool was a way too warm, so I just had fun. It ended up being a very relaxing Friday. I attended the weekly Friday seminar and learned about fruit flies and frogs that live near Cairns, Australia. Then I just kicked back and watched some TV shows the rest of evening. I did get to FaceTime with my family. My grandpa is visiting to see my sister's dance recital. It was really great to have a "face-to-face" conversation with him. Technology makes being away from home a lot easier!

The best thing about studying is... the breaks!

May 28th, 2014

Tuesday was full of studying. In the evening I helped Lianna cook dinner for herself and Aiden and afterwards I relaxed.

Today was also full of studying and laundry. In the afternoon, however, DUSA put on a free lunch a petting zoo! It was a pre-exam event to help everyone relax.

After the petting zoo I got ready for my very last tutorial of the trimester. It was a review for our upcoming exam. I then put the final touches on an assignment, turned it in and made dinner. Then it was back to studying.

PROOF! I do study and have classes!

By the end of the night I was feeling confident! I have some time to review in the morning before my exam, so I headed to bed! Before I was able to go... a HUGE spider crawled on my desk. I ran out to find Lauren. We finally cornered it and killed it. I am usually not freaked out by spiders, but it is Australia...

Trivia, Lambs, and Relaxation

May 26th, 2014

Thursday

My last day of marine biodiversity class. We had an in class review for our test this coming week. Afterwards, I continued to study until late in the afternoon. Chris and I headed to the gym to get a workout in before the nights activities. We got done around 6 and the I scrambled to eat and head over to Trivia Night. The theme was Mathletes vs. Athletes.

 some of the cute mathletes!

  V-Ness showing off her muscles!

I didn't win any prizes, but it was a fun way to support a local charity. I also learned a lot of Australian trivia. There was also an American question... "what amendment gives the Americans the right to bear arms?" I obviously knew... but there was a person my group that kept asking me if I was sure because the thought it was the 3rd amendment. I  smart alecky said "who is the American in this group." We ended up taking 4th place over all.

Afterwards, a bunch of us headed over to Maggie's birthday party. Her theme was high school stereotypes, which worked out well with my outfit. It was so much fun! I changed before we headed out to town. It was one of the best nights ever. All of us had so much fun. On our way back to uni, a friend told me I had to try chips, gravy, and cheese (french fries with gravy and cheese on top). It was okay, I still prefer ketchup. Before heading to bed, my housemates all sat outside my room and talked and laughed about the night. Finally, they decided to move to the kitchen I immediately crawled into bed and fell asleep.

Friday

Friday morning continued the night's party... sort of. Nick and Lauren (my housemates) ended up in my room after we had all woken up. Lauren brought her pillow and blanket and laid on my floor, Nick crawled in my bed and I sat at the end of my bed. The three of us talked and laughed for almost 2 hours before we decided it was time to make food and be semi-productive. Lauren called it the morning-wake-over because it wasn't a sleep over since we were trying to wake up.

In the afternoon, I headed into town. Jenny and I were heading over to Sonia's house for dinner and games with her family. I walked around before heading to Jenny's. I found a store that is a geek's heaven.

Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Super heroes... but no Star Trek :(

Then we were off with Sonia's dad to pick up her mum and see the lambs. They were so cute!

We watched MASH and ate pizza with Sonia's family. Afterwards, we played upwords, bananas, and pictionary. I noticed a striking cultural difference when we were playing pictionary. There was also a climate difference. I got the word snowflake and laughed because I was unsure if he would guess it since they don't have snow here. Jacob didn't guess it until I started to draw a snowman with it. It was so much fun.

Then we headed to the loft to see a band that was playing.

Some of Sonia's friends came up and talked to us for awhile. They also bought us drinks. Before we left, Sonia made the comment "I always get free drinks when I am out with you." I laughed and shrugged.

Saturday

I slept in. I headed to town with Nick to pick up a few groceries and things. We also searched for a birthday gift for one of his classmates. I just shook my head at some of the things he suggested getting her, but we eventually found something that I thought she would like and he didn't think it was too girly of a gift.

The afternoon was gloomy and cool. I watched some tv shows on my computer and drew.

I was going to go to bed early but I ended up staying up late to talk to Eric.

Sunday

Ben was off in Melbourne so his parents kindly picked me up for church. I ended up talking to people for an hour after church. One of the former pastors has family in Milwaukee. His name sound so familiar, so I called my dad after church and he thinks he has met them before. I can't believe how small the world is!

The afternoon consisted of me taking a nap and baking brownies. Ben invited me over for my "weekly feed" at his house, so I decided to make dessert. Peanut butter-oreo brownies. I had to make it in a pizza pan because we don't have a baking pan in the house. I also made my housemates try them. Peanut butter and chocolate is not a popular combination here. I couldn't believe how hesitant my housemates were to try them. I won them over though! The pizza pan, however, is not a good pan to use to make brownies. They didn't look pretty but they tasted delicious. Ben's family seemed to enjoy them as well. After dinner, Ben, his dad and I watched the movie "the Book Thief."It was a very good movie.

Monday

The weather has been changing a lot here so I have been getting some nasty heachaches. This morning I woke up with one and went back to sleep after talking to Eric for a bit. Eventually, I got up made lunch and checked my emails. Then headed to class. It was a review, or revision day, as they saw in Australia. It was a very short class. The rest of the day I am going to spend studying and relaxing. Hopefully, my head will start to feel better!
