Crosses and Spikes

April 16th, 2014

Today was a busy day without classes. I got up right away in the morning to volunteer with the Fishcare project again. This time we went up the river from Hopkins Falls. It was a beautiful morning!

Making Quadrats

In light of Easter, the campus Chaplin provided hot cross buns for a late morning snack. We got back from the field just in time for me to try my first hot cross bun. I eventually ate four more. They were really good!

Many people have already left for Easter break. I don't think anybody wants to do any more homework, but I came back and cleaned and did some work. I was supposed to go surfing but my friend had to cancel. Then I was supposed to go SCUBA diving but that fell through too. So Nick and I settled for a snorkel. We stopped at the dive shop and got some info about a new spot to try. On our walk to the site we met a spiky friend!

Burrowing for food

 He wanted to touch it

Its feet look crazy!

The echidna must have been hungry because he didn't pay any attention to us. When we went along on his way so did we. We ended up snorkelling by that cave that we found earlier. It was a rougher day than we had hoped for but we still gave it a try. The visibility was pretty bad in the little bay so we tried the cave.

It was a very open cave. When we were swimming around in it we saw lots of little fish and anemones. On the shore inside there were broken shells and sea glass.

Once it started to get a little to rough we got out and headed down to the break wall to snorkel. We stayed in for about 40 minutes before it got to wavy. It wasn't the best day for swimming but we got to see and touch an echidna!

The rest of the night I packed, cleaned, and got organised for my trip to Perth. One more day of classes then I am on my way to Western Australia (It is supposed to be in the 80s and sunny all week :) )
