This morning Alix and I slept in. After two early mornings and long days we deserved it. By 10am we were on out way to the train. We had looked up all the stops and buses we needed to take so we thought we knew what to do. When we arrived at the Midland stope we were informed by a very nice train man that we needed to go back a few stops. We hopped back on the train and got on the bus after. Then we had a nice long walk through Whiteman Park to the Caversham Wildlife Park.
Alix has not seen a kangaroo since she arrived in Australia so we headed to the kangaroo exhibit straight away, but still stopped to see a few birds.
In the exhibit we could pet the kangaroos! It was spectacular! Their fur is so soft.
One of the kangaroos I was petting rolled over on my and wanted its belly scratched!
There was also a kangaroo that had a joey in her pouch that you could see moving around
Our next stop was to pet the Koalas. Their fur was not as soft as the kangaroos. It was awesome to be so close!
When I was petting this Koala she turned a looked at me moving closer (Alix caught my surprise face).
Afterwards, we went and ate our lunch. Don't worry we washed our hands. Then we were off to explore other parts of the park.
About half way through the park it was time for the "wombat and friends" show. We go to see many of the animals up close and pet them.
We also stayed and talked to one of the animal care helpers. She actually studied environmental science at uni. After all the people were gone we were left, so we said our goodbyes to the animals and keepers and kept on moving. We nostalgically walked through the farm scetion. One of the keepers rode up on his horse and talked to us for a bit and told us to come watch the show. We learned how to sheer a sheep. Then we made our way around the rest of the park.
We stopped at the tasmanian devil exhibit to watch them be fed. One of the girls kept taking the meat and stashing it away.
We finished up our visit at the kangaroo exhibit. The mums were letting the joeys out so them were all hopping around.
This is one of my favourite sequence of photos! Watch the joey jump back in mum's pouch...
And the baby is gone.
This little joey was trying to reach the grass on the other side of the fence. It was having a lot of trouble so I got some for it! It was so cute!
I could have stayed there for hours!
On our walk back we saw some wild kangas and wallabies too. One of the workers ended up giving us a lift to the bus stop. By the time we got back to the hostel we were starving! We ended up eating at the bar connected to the hostel. It was great, cheap, and we met a lot of great people!
