Girls Weekend in Melbourne

Friday September 19th, 2014

It was a very early start to the day. Bettina picked Azra and I up at 6:30am to head to Melbourne. Bettina drove to Geelong where we caught a train into the city. Once we arrived in the city we headed to our hostel. We couldn't check in yet but we were able to store our luggage. We started to walk around to get an idea of where everything was. We then picked a place to eat lunch before heading to the aquarium.

 "some slippery lips"

We got glasses of wine with our lunch!

It was a fantastic lunch. We were right across the street from the aquarium so it wasn't long before we were inside exploring!

Look at who we found in the aquarium... Paige (my housemate) She works at the aquarium now!

My favourite part of the aquarium was the sea horse exhibit! They were absolutely beautiful!!

"Those penguins are flexible"

After the aquarium we walked around the city a bit more. We went into St. Paul Cathedral, which was absolutely beautiful! Then we headed to Hoiser Lane to check out the graffiti artwork.

We started walking to a shopping center when I found this. The Melbourne symphony is playing the soundtrack of the Star Trek with the movie. I won't be in the country anymore though.

After doing some shopping. We stopped at Subway to get some dinner. It was great to sit down! Then we were off again to the Eureka Skydeck! It is the tallest building in Australia and in the Southern Hemisphere. It was beautiful! We stayed there for almost 2 hours just looking down at the city.

We headed back to the hostel and checked in. I was exhausted and fell asleep almost instantly!

Saturday = Chocolate Day!!

We had a very relaxing morning before heading out into the city. Our morning began with a trip to the Victoria Markets. Azra and I looked around for some Australia souvenirs. We didn't buy anything and we decided we would have a think and come back after our chocolate tour.

Our first taste test was at Haigh's.  Here is a link to the some of the history we were told about the company.

So excited!!!

Our next stop was the Lindt Chocolate Shop and cafe! This is probably my favourite! I love the Lindt chocolate balls!

Then we arrived at Ganache Chocolates. We were debating if this was an AFL or NFL footy. It totally looks more like a NFL football.

Here is some of the history about this chocolate company

Then we went to Readers Feast to see where the first store of Haigh's Chocolate was in Melbourne and to also hear a bit of history about the building and the old department store. And we got to look at some chocolate books!

Our very last stop on the tour was at Koko Black. Here we had our afternoon tea. Everyone got a coffee or tea and a chocolate dessert. I was AMAZING but after eating all that chocolate I felt kinda sick.

We wondered around to try and find some place to eat lunch. We found some other cool things along the way.

We ate salad for lunch at Nandos. We all just wanted something healthy to eat after all that chocolate. on our way back to the Victoria Markets. We found a man that was creating a new graffiti work and watched him for awhile. Azra asked if he would put her name in the piece. He said he would. We said we would come back after going back to the markets. The markets were already packed up by the time we got there so we wondered around the souvenir shops. We eventually made it back to the graffiti wall and sure enough Azra's name was there.

We looked around at a few more shops before going for dinner. We were all sick of people so we stopped and McDonald's and took it back to our room to eat in peace. After relaxing for a bit we were off to experience the night life.

Our first stop was the Ice Bar. Chris and his mom were waiting for us to arrive. We all went in together and had an amazing time! We outlasted everyone else. It wasn't even that cold.

We weren't supposed to take photos inside but I took a few. I also bought two pictures for all of us.

Then we took some photos with the city lights.

We then started to wonder around to find the night clubs.  I found a bar named after me! ;)

And I got a balloon
And this is what we did with the balloon.

Chris  found his dream car along the way too.

The Crown

We had a great night dancing. Chris and hi mom weren't able to come in with us but I think they still had a great night. When we got back to the hostel we crashed!

Sunday

Sunday was the shopping day. We went to the largest shopping center in the Southern hemisphere, Chadstone. It was massive. We had fun trying on dresses and looking in a lot of the shops. By the end of the day we were ready to go home. We got back the hostel shortly before 4 and then we were on our way to the train station. We had to wait 30 mins for the train so we got ice cream. We made it safely home after 1 our on the train and 2 hours in the car. I relaxed for the evening after correcting an assignment. It was good to be home.
