Wednesday
The morning started off very rainy, so I headed to the gym to work up an appetite for the study week pancake breakfast. I was the first to show up and start eating. It was great to be able to catch up with
V-ness and other people that I don't see very often. Just before I left V-ness made me an Australian shaped pancake!
The rest of the afternoon was studying. Lianna came over to my house and we studied for marine biology all afternoon. It is great having a study buddy. We don't talk at all but just studying in the same room keeps us both motivated.
For dinner I was invited over to Ben's house. He made a chicken and chorizo jambalaya and for dessert kahlua cheesecake. I wasn't off the hook though. I had to sing for my food... sort of. He and his mom asked me to sing in church on Sunday and since I was over we practiced a few of the songs. His dad enjoyed listening to us practice. I made everyone laugh whenever I messed up because I would just start laughing and mumble the melody until I figured out what was going on again.
After practicing awhile, we all headed to the living room to watch a movie. I got to pick! I hadn't seen Frozen yet, so we watched Frozen. It is very good!
Thursday
I slept in a little bit because it was rainy and headed out for my run once the sun came out. There is a dog that lives in a house about 500 meters away from the whale watching platform. I have run by him every time and he has always just sat in his yard and watched me go by. This time wasn't any different until I was about 100 meters away and he zoomed in front of me. I stopped a looked at him and then he stopped looked at me and started wagging his tail. I started walking then he took off again ahead of me.
He knew exactly where I was going. He led me the rest of the way to the platform. I laughed almost the whole way there. It was nice having a running buddy, but I am sure he is not supposed to leave his yard. He kept guard while I watched for whales. I didn't see any, but eventually he came over for a good scratch.
There was a storm brewing and moving inland, so I knew I had to leave to get back before it hit.
I figured since the dog followed me here he would follow me back... well it kinda worked. He followed me to the parking lot then turned right around. I ran a little bit down the road... no dog. I turned around to go find him. He wasn't wearing a tag with a phone number on it so I felt I needed to get him home. Well, he had already found his next target for an ear scratchy. He had started following another woman around. I tried to get him to come with me. Again we got to the parking lot and he turned around. At this point I really needed to get going so I wouldn't get caught in the storm. I ran down to his house and rang the doorbell. No one answered. I had done everything I could. He knew how to get to the beach so he must know how to get home.
I started heading back, taking a faster pace trying to out run the storm... yeah no that didn't happen (darn dog). 4km from home it started misting then pouring. Get this, by the time I got home it was sunny again. It was a very eventful run.
The afternoon was another study session. Lianna and I finished up around 4pm and headed over to the American's house in town for a BBQ and bonfire for their going away. It was very laid back and felt like a summer night at home. The Aussies were out of their comfort zone listening to American country music though.
Some of the group headed to bars for a night out, but I headed back to uni and went to bed. I was super tired!
