Night Snorkel... Take 2

June 3, 2014

My day started off talking to Eric before I headed out for my run. I didn't end up seeing any whales when I reached the viewing platform, but I did see a cat...

When I got back from my run. I relaxed around the house and hung out with friends until 2pm. I attended a seminar about the Australian Wildlife Health Network. It wasn't the greatest presentation, but it got me thinking. Afterwards, I met up with Jonno, Meng and Wu and we went to get supplies to make torches for our night snorkel. When we were all situated and working on making the torches. Jonno and I had a jam session. I am not as good as he is... that is for sure!

Then we were off to Pea Soup for a night snorkel. I brought my new underwater camera. I am still learning how to use it, so I didn't get as many nice photos as I wanted. Here are a few of the good ones!

 Now you don't... sort of
(eyes and antenna sticking out)

It was a really great night of snorkelling. I saw many things I have seen before and knew what they were. I also saw a few new species. At one point I rolled over on my back and looked at the stars. It was incredible. I could see all the stars and the haze of the Milky Way. Robyn taught me how to find south using the Southern Cross constellation. It is truly amazing here!
It is still erie to me in the ocean at night though. It is pitch black then you shine a light in the water and see all the animals out and about. Shrimp and crabs scavenging for food and dumpling squid finding their mates.  I wish I could do this every night!
