Busy as Bees

Monday August 18th, 2014

The day began with an early run. Chris and I are back on track for our training. After our run, I was able to talk to a few people from home before turning my attention to homework. The afternoon brought about the excitement.

Our lab for Aquatic Animal Health and Reproduction was learning how to anaesthetising fish. One of our fish took 30 minutes to be fully anaesthetised. We were worried that it would not recovery.

During the recovery period we helped them get more oxygen across their gills.  All of our fish recovered and were happy.

This is the underwater view of the fish after they woke up!

After lab, we cleaned up and had tea. I had already promised Chris that I would go watch the basketball game. It was fun. I was the coach on the side lines though. The guys didn't win, but they had a few great shots.

I got in on the action at the end!

When we got home I did a little more homework before heading to bed early.

Another day, another run. After I got back I got to crash a bonfire at home. It was a lot of fun to catch up and see everyone. I can't wait to come home and give everyone a big hug!

The rest of the day was filled with working on homework and one class at 4pm. It seems like with spring just around the corner all of our assignments are due. So I really am as busy as a bee.

Wednesday August 20th, 2014

My morning started off talking to Mr. Grauer. He just had brain surgery so it was great to be able to see him healthy and happy. Hills. That was our work out for the morning. Once we got back I got to talk to my mom, cats, and Eric. I had a quick lunch and then I was off to my meeting with Katrina to review my essays for my vet school applications. Right after the meeting I submitted one application no problems then I went on to the next. My essays were not copying in correctly, then I realised it was a 600 character limit not a 600 word limit. Well I waited until after my class to edit them down and submit the application. It was a relief to have them done, the coffee and cookies helped too.

I got more work done during tea. A few people in kitchens were going to the Resi trivia. It was an underwater theme.

So I dressed up in my SCUBA gear... I borrowed Lauren's purple fins and pink booties.

Skittle challenge between rounds

Team name A^3 +1 (Three Americans + 1 Aussie)

Didn't know the answers so we made up funny ones

Ballon Challange

I finally won best dressed. Funny enough the prize was the Aussie equivalent of ramen noodles, so I shared my prize with my team.

Some more funny challenges

Winning the unravelling contest

Overall, we tied for second. I was super impressed because there was a lot of Aussie trivia we obviously didn't know. It was a lot of fun and a good break from homework. Right after though, I was right back at it.

Thursday August 21st, 2014

Classes all day. Lunch was great because Ben dropped off a piece of cheesecake for me! It was delicious. Then all of us housemates were hyper and just kicked the ball around for awhile before getting back to class.

After class, we were planning on running to the stores quick to pick up a few items. I checked Facebook quick and I found out I had been nominated for the ice bucket challenge. We had talked about it earlier if one of us got nominated we would jump off the breakwall into the really cold ocean. So that is what we did...

On our way there we saw an echidna

Then we went to the park to experience the flying fox. It was a really beautiful night!

So much FUN!

The girls!

 Being goofy

We eventually made it to the shops. Lauren was rockin' her wetsuit the whole way home!

When we got home we all made tea and ate. Then we sat and watched the swimming. The house has become divided now that the USA is swimming against Australia. We stopped and visited Ashley's birthday party before we came back to work on assignments. I finished my paper and submitted it before going to bed!!!
